Talahi Lake Estates is located on Talahi Island, an unincorporated Island that is part of Savannah, Georgia. The island of Talahi has approximately 1250 residents and lies in the tidal marshes east of Savannah. It is bordered by Bull River on the north and east, Turner’s Creek on the west and Wilmington Island on the south. It is a small community with only one and a half square miles of land. Talahi Island is home to four lakes. Talahi Lake is the only lake on the south side of Hwy 80 which divides the island almost in half.

Talahi lake is not visible from Hwy 80, the only road that takes people out to Tybee Island. We like to say we are, “The best kept secret of the Islands.”  Talahi Lake is in the form of a V with Suncrest Boulevard traveling along the outside of the V shape and Twelve Oaks Drive traveling the inside of the V shape. There are three entrances, two off of Hwy 80 and one off of Quarterman Drive. Suncrest Boulevard rings the outside of the lake and has both an entrance and exit on Hwy 80 and Quarterman Drive. Twelve Oaks Lane has one entrance and exit off Hwy 80.

The developer of Talahi Island, Mr. Claude Quarterman Falligant, created several lakes on the islands to provide road base for Hwy 80 to Tybee. The only lake on the south-side of Hwy 80, Talahi Lake, was dug out into two legs of the V with a dam between them. Mr. Cecil Dickey, who dug out the lakes for Mr. Falligant, dug the east side out first and then the west. The dam was partially destroyed to join the two lakes together, creating the sand bar that joins them now. The sand bar is only a few feet deep and is a favorite area of the lake for residents to gather and swim.

Swimming in Talahi Lake is enjoyed by all ages. Floaties and noodles are popular choices for the days spent in the water. Kayak, longboards, pedal boats, sailboats and electric boats are seen on the lake in fair weather. The lake is, also, home to fishermen who cast out their lines to catch Bass, Bluegill, Crappie and Catfish.

Talahi Lake Management Corp was formed on June 17, 1981 to maintain the quality and beauty of Talahi Lake. Each year an annual meeting is held by the Board of Directors for lake residents with the goal of keeping the lake healthy and enjoyable for lake activities.
