While we have a company engaged to treat our lake, we all have to help by following some basic principles.
Here are two that are especially important.
- While natural materials fall into the lake, we need to dispose of our yard waste through established means. The County picks up yard waste every week, usually Thursday. Just place your materials in your containers or paper bags. If you have a truck, take larger quantities to the transfer station on Concord on Wilmington Island. Please do not throw or allow your yard waste to be thrown into the lake.
Exception: small trees near shore make good cover for small fish. Your natural Christmas tree can go in the lake when you have removed all unnatural materials.
2. Use yard chemicals responsibly. Don’t fertilize or use other chemicals too close to the lake. Fertilizer in particular can promote undesirable growth.
By doing a few things, we can keep our lake in great condition for fishing, swimming and boating.
