From Chatham County Police:
A GREAT WEEK FOR THE CROOKS, A BAD WEEK FOR PEOPLE WHO DON’T LOCK THEIR CARS…
We had 29 entering auto cases in the last week. All but one of those vehicles was unlocked. We also had three vehicles stolen when they were left unlocked with the keys inside.
Here’s our weekly list of the items stolen from unlocked vehicles:
One shotgun
One pistol
CD’s
More than $60 cash
Phone cases
Phone chargers
Hitachi Demo Saw taken from back of unsecured truck
Backpack with laptop
Bluetooth speaker
Generator taken from back of unsecured food truck
Suitcase containing clothing, passport and Greencard
Military police vest
Three passports
One purse
Three cell phones
Three wallets
Shoes
Boots
Make-up
We can’t say it enough…when you leave your vehicle unlocked with valuables inside, you are making life very easy for the criminals. And, these criminals are hitting every area of the county. So, don’t think you’re immune.
I’ve seen several posts recently on Nextdoor about cars being hit on the Islands. Hard to believe what people leave behind in their unlocked cars. We must be extra careful to lock our car doors this time of year while shopping for Christmas presents.
Thanks for reminding us, John and Sue!
