I spoke with an officer parked at the big curve on Suncrest the other morning to find out how we could get the large sign that displays the speed a car is driving and flashes blue and red lights if the car is going over the speed limit. There is one currently on Quarterman across Hwy 80. He said we should contact the Police Annex and tell them we have issues with speeders and they will bring it over. He was actually sitting there checking for speeders. He said they know we have had issues and there should be no problem with bringing the sign.

Thanks for stopping and asking. The one on Quaterman is right past the community center. Very eyecatching! Please let us know what they say. Also, mention that we need one on big Tybee weekends. That is when it is very bad!
I’m working in the office tomorrow and the Police Department is down the street. i’ll run by and see what they say.
Sounds good. Please post when you get an answer. Saturday was a race day on Suncrest again.
Well my update is no update. The officer I spoke with on our street told me to go to headquarters and make the request. Police Headquarters is down the street from my office. When I got there they acted like they really didn’t know what I should do but it wasn’t them. They gave me a phone number to call. I called the phone number and they gave me a new number for the traffic department. No one answered there. I’ll try calling the number again in the morning to see if I get an answer. Let ya’ll know if I have any luck tomorrow. Linda
OK, we’re now on the list to have the Speed Limit sign put on Suncrest. I went to the police annex here on the island and they had all the information. Imagine that! They will either call me or e-mail me how far down the list we are for the sign. They are also going to get the patrol that works Highway 80 on the weekends to ride down Suncrest on Saturday and Sunday mid day.
When I have more information I’ll let everyone know. Linda
Great job, Linda! Glad to hear that we get the sign!

Update; Neighborhood Liaison Officer Danielle Pimental said the speed trailer would be on Suncrest within the next three weeks. Keep her name in case we need someone with the police office in the future. Super nice!
You did it! That’s great news.
The sign was on Suncrest this past friday morning. It’s been interesting watching the reaction of the drivers and how often the blue lights for speeders are flashing. Once someone pulling a trailer was speeding by and the sign flashed SLOW DOWN with blue lights flashing. Guy slowed down immediately.
If someone on the other end of Suncrest wants the sign down there just call or go to the local police annex and ask to be placed on the list to bring it back. Give them the area you want it on. They are super nice folks.
Maybe the Suncrest owners need to buy our own sign!
